Fee Hedrick has shared, publicly, their plans concerning the greatly anticipated Smoky Mountain Opry Christmas Spectacular’s ChristmasFest at the Opry, a jolly, jaw dropping festival located in front parking lot of the theater at traffic light 0.

Guests upon entering the ChristmasFest, will be overwhelmed by the selection of rides and activities such as: a Ferris wheel, a Christmas Carousel, a Himalaya, a Santa train, spinning Christmas bears, an Alpine Racing Sled, and let’s not forget about the HUGE covered ice skating rink! This rink is complete with skate rental, changing area, and a place for folks to just sit back and enjoy the view. Children may also spend time with Santa Claus and his LIVE reindeer (photos will be available.)

But wait, there’s more! ChristmasFest has something for all ages. Whether it is taking a ride on their horse drawn carriage rides or a stroll through the Arts and Crafts Village, guests will be swept away with Christmas Spirit. Should they get hungry, they can fill up on Wassail, hot chocolate, popcorn balls, roasted nuts, and other Christmas themed menu items provided by food vendors.

One of the most LIP SMACKABLE features of the festival is a S’mores Pit. Guests will be able to roast their own ewwy, gooey marshmallows to their hearts delight. This mouth watering treat is the epitome of an outdoorsy Christmas eat!

Speaking of outdoors, the ChristmasFest and Smoky Mountain Opry Christmas Spectacular (heavily peppered with lighted trees and garland) will feature an outdoor synchronized light show every 30 minutes all choreographed to Christmas music. An entertainment stage will also be available and community choirs and featured performers will play for the live crowd.

While specifics on the Smoky Mountain Opry Christmas Spectacular are being kept as tightly under wraps as a Christmas present, we do know that there plans to be an INCREDIBLE indoor laser light and special effect show. This, too, shall be choreographed to Christmas music. There will also be a BRAND NEW stage, floating musicians, and flying sugar plum fairies.

Well, there you have it folks. The imagination and creativity over at Fee Hedrick knows no end, but maybe that is what we all need and ESPECIALLY at Christmas time. The Smoky Mountain Opry Christmas Spectacular opens November 4th and the ChristmasFest opens November 1st.Visit their website today at www.SmokyMtnOpry.com! Hope to see you there:)

Pigeon Forge "Premiere"

As you cruise along the Parkway of Pigeon Forge, it isn't hard to spot the stunning and pristine shopping complex, Walden's Landing, and all it has to offer the public. It is home to incredible features such as: Firehouse Golf, the NEW and AMAZING Tomb, Red Rocket, Calhoun's, Smoky Mountain Brewery, Birkenstock, and The Forge Cinemas. Both guests to the area and locals alike flock to the theater each week to relax in their cozy chairs and watch the most current releases on state of the art technology.

On July 1st, guests to the complex could even enjoy the rich history of the town encompassing them via the film, "Cornfields to Condos." It traces the roots of Pigeon Forge, which just celebrated its 5oth anniversary of incorporation, from its first settlement through present day. This film is the brainchild of locals including city historian, Vita King and Derek Roominess, technical coordinator for Pigeon Forge Library.

The film was shown at 10 a.m. FREE to the public at The Forge Cinema and lasted approximately 40 minutes long. Well then, you should visit the newest attraction to come to Pigeon Forge, Tomb. Located in the popular Walden's Landing Shopping Center, it was developed by Ned Vikers. The attraction itself resides in a “pyramid” fully equipped with guides in costume. When guests come in, they are taken out in tour groups and explained the storyline. The sole purpose of the attraction is to solve multiple tasks and puzzles over the course of a half hour testing your strength, memory, and intellect. Not only are you racing against the clock at some points, but you can also trigger other boobie traps.

The challenges start off fairly easy then increase in difficulty. The guide helps you along the way should you need any help. All of this takes to an Indiana Jones-like backdrop. Guests travel from one dark, eerie chamber to the next. Their advancement is based on their ability to solve the challenge they are faced.

I really enjoyed this attraction. I thought I would do fairly well at solving the puzzles, but I found the “kick in the pants” refreshing. Everything about this place was unique and stimulating. This is exactly what our area needs. I especially liked the friendliness and excitement that the workers showed. It has my vote and I recommend it to anyone:) Check it out...http://www.tombadventure.com/

The Hatfield & McCoy Dinner Show: The Reviews Are In

Sounds like this show is a must see during your Pigeon Forge vacation!

Hooray "Hatfield & McCoy's" Finally Here!

Well, it has been 6 months since it was first announced that the much loved Black Bear Jamboree and Black Bear Jamboree Christmas Spectacular would have their last season. Opening day, May 26th, has came and went and things are going SPECTACULAR! Now, both David Fee and Jim Hedrick are known for their creativity and quality when it comes to putting together a production. Never in a million years did anyone have a clue as to what was to come when they decided the shows would be replaced by Hatfield & McCoy Dinner Show. Ideas were tossed around and sketches passed about, but all seemed so unreal. These two men took their dream and held on to it till the very end. The imagination of Fee and Hedrick is an inspiration to ALL ages.

All of Sevier County and guests traveling through witnessed your seemingly average theater morph into a feud-friendly setting consisting of two worn down cabins complete with graves, clothes line, and chicken coupes. It sure took a whole lot of elbow grease and manpower to look that Country. If you have ever had the pleasure of reading Snuffy Smith Comics, you could very well picture what the theater now looks like. Personally, I couldn't tell you whether the outhouse or the junked truck out front was the proverbial "icing on the cake." All of it comes together so perfectly like some kind of hillbilly wonderland with the jubilant twang of Bluegrass to comfort you as you walk toward the doors. I refuse to reveal what splendid and creative secrets lie behind the entry way. This is something you HAVE to see for yourself to believe.

Pigeon Forge Vacation Packages

It seems Vacation Packaging and combos are the way to go now-a-days and that is great news for SeePigeonForge.com. I have had the great pleasure of crossing paths with the owner of Scenic Helicopters, Dan Haynes, on a few occasions. He is incredibly personable and extremely high energy to say the least. "Busy" is a word that is not foreign to him by any means. Not all that long ago, at a meeting, he announced the impending Helicopter Awareness Day. Dan then went on to explain that the proceeds go to benefit Children’s Hospital. As it turns out, his father, the late Hal Haynes, had suffered and been cured of Polio as a child. Children’s Hospital had provided the care that Hal needed in order to recover from such a tragic illness. This event, which has gone on for 24yrs, seems one part tribute to dedication/skill of Children’s Hospital and one part celebration of the life of Hal Haynes, who brought so much to this area concerning helicopters.

This past Saturday, once again, was Helicopter Awareness Day. Scenic Helicopters raised funds by collecting $10 per golf ball; however, with that money the person donating could win any of 3 AWESOME prize packages:

Grand Prize, won by Brad Childress, was worth over $1250 and included a Grand Helicopter Tour for 4, king suite at Springhill Marriott for 2 nights, 2 rafting passes with Smoky Mountain Outdoors, and a gift cert. to Conner's Concepts Restaurant.

Second prize, won by Nick Garera, entailed 4 Splash Country passes, 4 Smokies passes, 2 Titanic passes, a gift cert. to Conner's Concepts Restaurant, and a gift cert. to NOC Great Outpost.

Third prize, won by Travis Bradley, included a season pass with Smoky Mountain Outdoors, 4 Smokies passes, 2 Titanic passes, and 4 Comedy Barn passes.

A helicopter dropped a massive amount of golf balls which determined the winners of the prize packages. The event was hosted by Lumberjack Feud and The United Way of Sevier County's Danny Devaney. Also, the beloved Skidz the clown made an appearance. Overall, the event was a great success. It made over $5, ooo and was a pure delight for those who attended. The best part, not to be overlooked, was that it was all for a FANTASTIC cause!

Mmm, Mmm Melting Pot

Collier Restaurant Group has supplied our area with DELICIOUS food and GREAT service for several years now. The whole month of March was a fine example of this. Rarely was there a day with nothing to do. For instance, both The Miracle Theater and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat opened back up this month. "Miracle" is in its 6th and final season and "Joseph" is in its 2nd and final season. They have a SPECTACULAR new cast this year and have gotten off to a super start. The two shows plan to make this their BEST season ever before closing their curtains thus scheduled for late October.

Speaking of great seasons...if the turnout and quality of entertainment at the NACMAI Annual Country Music Week is a prediction of the type of year they are going to have, Country Tonite is going to have a stellar year. The North America Country Music Association held their Int'l's Annual Country Music Week at the Country Tonite Theater on March 7-13.The general public had free admittance to the theater during the week for an awesome display of performances and memorabilia showcases. This is a yearly event that includes a variety of different features such as: inductions to the Hall of Fame and performances by up-and-coming stars. Several well-known artists stayed at the much loved Hotel Pigeon Forge, conveniently located next to the theater, and offered onlookers jam sessions in the evenings in the hotel's lovely lobby. See Pigeon Forge had the pleasure of attending one and it was a lot of fun. The guests seemed to really enjoy it and kudos to the owners of the hotel for putting something like that together for them for free. You can check out the pictures on our Facebook.

Another, exciting event march had to offer was the 37th Annual Winter Carnival of Magic. Presented by Knoxville I.B.M. Ring 58 at Country Tonite Theater on March 3-5, it was nothing short of "magical." The event included lectures, stage shows, close-up shows, and a dealer's room behind a mysterious black curtain. Magnificent performers such as: Carroll Baker, Ricky Boone, T.J. Shimeld (author of The Four-Foot GIANT and THE Vanishing Wheelchair), Scott Wells,Tom Craven, Aldo & Rachel Columbini, David Acer, Dennis Alm, Kyle Jarrard, Lance Johnson, Sandy Marshall, Troy Hooser, Banachek,Rick Merrill, Doc Eason, Michael Finney, Bryson Lang, Rhythm of Magic, Kozmo entertained the crowd. Certain parts of this event were closed off to just magicians; however, other parts were able to be attended
by the general public. It was astounding to be able to view magic so up close and personal. Everyone was friendly, informative, and the event was highly organized. A special Thanks goes out to John Hopper, President of Ring 58, and his group, T.J. Shimeld Ricky Boone, and ALL the others who went out of their way to make us covering the 37th Winter Carnival of Magic feel so welcome!

See Pigeon Forge just happened to get a sneak peek at what April and may has in store for you and it'll knock your socks off! Keep in touch!

A Labor of Love: Project Jose

Driving down the Parkway in Pigeon Forge, there are certain "landmarks" if you will that stand out in our mind. These are fixtures that we have grown accustomed to seeing over the years that give us a since of comfort and location. Well, for the last nine years Jose Cahall has been very much one of these "fixtures." His heartwarming smile and glowing attitude pulled people in off the Parkway as he waved traffic into the Comedy Barn. He ALWAYS had on a crazy hat and was nothing less than radiant. It was almost as if he was the city's compass to laughter.

Jose, originally from Delaware, surprised his Comedy Barn family when he lost his right leg below the knee due to arterial disease and a hereditary clotting disorder in January. Word traveled fast, and before too long bosses and co-workers alike were calling to see how they could be of assistance. It was decided to remodel his home while he was in recovery at Patricia Neal Rehabilitation Center in Knoxville. Cahall’s bathrooms were fitted with handrails, a shower seat and more. Other modifications include:the home was thoroughly cleaned;all the walls were patched and painted;new flooring was installed, all new curtains and furniture was installed; a new bed was set up for Jose; and a new ramp entrance and deck were installed. His refrigerator was even filled with groceries. Besides paying for the renovation supplies, Hedrick and Fee,of Fee/Hedrick Family Entertainment, are paying for Cahall’s prosthetic leg and remaining medical bills. To everyone's surprise, Cahall's doctor donated a new stove, washer and dryer.

Jose had a wonderful homecoming, complete with his Comedy Barn family. He loved his new home and is now learning to walk on his prosthetic leg. He is a WONDERFUL man who has given so much of himself to this community. Through it all , he has not lost his smile nor his positive attitude. I think it is humbling to see such strength in the human spirit and to also bear witness to people pulling together out of love for a fellow human being.

Pigeon Forge to Get New Event Center

Well, it looks like Pigeon Forge is going to get their long overdue event center. This center will be the result of the city's $45 million plan to revamp the failed, but not forgotten Belle Island. Just recently, city commissioners gave their approval to work a deal with Pigeon River Land Partners LLC. Developer Darby Campbell and his business partner, Bob McManus head up this company and are known for dealings such as Dogwood Plaza, Pigeon Forge's Mellow Mushroom, the Lakeside Tavern, and other restaurants. According to the agreement, the company would develop an events center across from the city's 35-acre parking facility. The city agreed to use the center under a 27-year lease.

The plans for the 232,599-square-foot event center include a 100,500 square foot exhibit hall, 12,000 square foot multipurpose hall, and more. It has been referred to as the LeConte Center at Pigeon Forge. The developers are also buying 12 acres adjacent to that spot for a 200-room hotel. There is already an existing 138-room hotel that was partially constructed as part of Belle Island project. If all goes as scheduled, construction of Riverwalk Village will resume this summer, with the hotel and some restaurants open by the spring 2012.Construction of the event center is expected to start this summer and be completed by sometime 2013.

With all the special events, the city of Pigeon Forge has needed this for a while and it will bring more jobs to the area. Good news is always a plus!

2011 Tennessee Winter Special Olympics

The much anticipated Tennessee Winter Special Olympics were held this year at Ober Gatlinburg on January 31 thru February 1. The event opened with an evening ceremony on Sunday night, January, 30th and the traditional “Lighting of the Torch” ceremony was the following morning at Ober Gatlinburg. The evening ceremony was located at the popular Gatlinburg Convention Center. It started with the Color Guard provided by the Gatlinburg Police Department followed by a march of the athletes and recognition of programs. Areas represented at this year’s Tennessee Winter Special Olympics were: Area 1/Nashville, Area 4 / Chattanooga Area 5/Knoxville, Area 6/Columbia, Area 9/Cookeville, Area 12/Clarksville, Area 13/Tullahoma, Area 15/Maryville, Area 26/Williamson County, Area 27/Wilson County, Area 32/Rogersville & Kingsport, and the host delegation Area 10/Morristown.

Later, Games Director, Meg Takahashi, introduced Rex Anders of Ober Gatlinburg and two UT football players Tauren Poole and Austin Johnson. Plaques were presented to Scot Stinnet of Walgreens and to Will McGaha/Scott Murphy Gatlinburg Convention Center. MANY thanks go out Ober Gatlinburg, Gatlinburg Depart of Tourism, Gatlinburg Convention Center, The American Legion Post 202, The Smoky Mountain Ski Club, Walgreens, American Eagle Outfitters, Alcoa Civitan, and Flav-o-Rich. Without your help, the event would not have been possible.

The actual event included Alpine Skiing, Snowboarding, and Speed skating. There were an incredible 119 athletes in attendance and 40 coaches. They had a day of preparation and a day to compete. The praise and support offered by the staff, friends, family, and fans were phenomenal. Everyone was having such a great time. It was rewarding occasion for the athletes as well as their parents. If you have never attended a Special Olympics event, it is highly encouraged. It reflects both the true strength of the human spirit and joy in the purest form. These individuals are truly remarkable in every sense of the word.

As a mother of a daughter with spina bifida, I know the hardships of working with a special needs individual, but I also know MORE SO the benefits. I cannot tell express enough gratitude for everything the parents, caretakers, teachers, participating businesses, doctors, and more do for the care, support, and encouragement of our loved ones. The Special Olympics Tennessee is a magnificent organization. After all, he was just 17 and a very well-known youth around the area. Ryan was a star football player and had a promising future. Everything changed in the blink of an eye, when Seymour and three other passengers from Greenback High School wrecked on Calderwood Highway after being thrown from their vehicle. All were injured, but Ryan later passed away. It is hard to believe that a light, which shined so brightly, could be snuffed out so quickly.

The community's reaction to the youth's passing was one of extreme support for the family. Right away, they set up a way people can make donations to the family via Regions Bank Ryan Seymour Foundation. Also they held The Seymour Family Benefit on January 29th from 4-7pm at Greenback High School. The benefit included a silent auction, cake walk, live music, chili dinner & desserts in the lunch room, baked goods, and a slide show of Ryan. They were also selling memorial t-shirts.

The silent auction was a huge success and many thanks goes out to the companies and individuals who made it possible. There were items such as: Braces from start to finish by Turner Orthodontics,4 tickets to Comedy Barn and $30 Tony Roma's Gift Card from See Pigeon Forge, Wilderness of the Smokies family passes, 3 UT game tickets for 2 people, UT football coach & basketball coach autographed items, diamond pendant necklace, ladies Swiss watch, MHS State Champ autographed football, free oil change certificates, stained glass large picture, fresh water pearl necklace, professional photography $100 gift certificate, and so MUCH MORE!

The benefit was a huge success. Greenback showed that they both a community of personal strength in time of need and a place of caring. The most obvious "benefit" from the event was learning that Ryan was not considered just a member of their community, but as a member of their families.

Check out pictures of the event on our Facebook site at http://www.facebook.com/#!/SeePigeonForgeTN and remember to donate to Regions Bank Ryan Seymour Foundation.

Thanks for the Miracle

Fans from all around, received bittersweet news recently when it was posted on-line that the beloved Miracle Theater and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat were getting ready to start their final seasons. The theater itself will remain open, but will offer The Smoky Mountain Opry, or what some have been calling “The BIG Show.” This production is expected to open Spring 2012.

The Miracle has an amazing fan-base and the staff there has such a heart for their guests. Just a quick glimpse of their Facebook or the comments left on their website, will show you the MANY lives that are touched by both these current shows. One of the most touching things a guest gets to see is the book that greets him/her at the front door. It includes everything from life changing experiences to just simple thank you's. The sentimental mixture of hand written letters and photos always proves to be too much. Also, the weekly contests and wonderfully creative prizes that the shows offer make their fans feel like part of the production.

So if The Miracle and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat are so great, why close them you ask? To speculate...The Miracle is getting ready to give us its 6th season (putting Joseph in its 2nd.) Could it be that it was decided for them to close at their height? The idea of those two shows slowly fading out year after year is gut wrenching, especially considering the subject matter. Just a thought to ponder...I will post more on this as it comes available.

Some of the Best Memories

Ladies and gentlemen, Elvis has left the building...BUT HAS FOUND A NEW ONE! For the last 20 years, guests to the area have been welcomed by the sight of the Memories Theater right there on the Parkway. The theater has grown a strong fan base during that time and is seen as rather a fixture in this community. When the heartbreaking news came that the theater was closing, the fans didn't hesitate to post their disappointment and support. Such as:

Barbara and R.G Young from Johnson City, Tennessee wrote “Hi Everyone, we are so sorry to hear about the closing of Memories, R.G and I have celebrated a lot of anniversaries with you and with our 30th coming up on the 20th of Dec. we are planning on coming down on the 18th to celebrate one last time at Memories. Dee you have always put on a first class show and we are going to miss it dearly. We will be looking for Lou and everyone else at other places. Take care.”

Whitney from Virginia wrote “It really makes me sad to hear you all are closing. I've been to your show many many times. It's really become a family tradition. When I was younger and dealing with severe depression my parents would bring me to your show. Sometimes multiple times a year. It just really helped to get me out of my depression. =) I'm now older and have my own family and we have kept the tradition of coming to your show every time we come to TN. Hopefully you all can stay together and keep this amazing show alive! Anyways I just wanted to thank you all for making the show a one of a kind. Lou you are truly amazing! Your heart is in the right place and you are an amazing entertainer! Wish you all the best! Happy Holidays =)”

Call it a Christmas miracle, a dream come true, or even an answered prayer, but low and behold Memories Theater will remain open...only in another location. The news came via The Mountain Press the morning of January 9th. The headlines read: “‘Memories’ won’t fade away; venue will change, but last-minute deal saves Elvis tribute show.” It seems the show will moving to the the former Oldies Showplace Dinner Theater. There does seem to be quite a difference in the amount of seats between the two theaters. The old theater seats 800 where as the new theater is expected to seat 300-400. Despite this fact, hopes are extremely high and fans from everywhere couldn't be happier.

All the contact information for Memories Theater such as: phone number (428-7852), website www.memoriestheatre.com), and name will remain unchanged. Anticipated opening date is March 15 th.

A Whole New Year!

Do you have BIG plans for New Years Eve? The popular and much loved Memories Theater and Magic Beyond Belief are wrapping up their last season. Kick 'N Country closed their doors on November 27th. Then shortly after hearing word of the closings , a huge announcement came. John Joslyn and Mary Kellogg-Joslyn owners of the Titanic Museum purchased the 12 acres across the Parkway and are making a $40 million water attraction. Although construction is to start as early as spring 2011, it will not be open until the summer of 2013.

This is not going to be your average run of the mill water attraction either. It is designed to show you all the awesome things you can do with water and thrilling ways to play with it. Joslyn was quoted saying: "We are not a water park; we are not an aquarium," he said. "This is all about turning on your imagination. It's kind of like Willy Wonka, but with water." By the sound of it, Water Magic will be just that. The Titanic Museum, itself, was nothing short of colorful and creative. It set the bar very high by entertaining, educating, and fascinating the massive amounts of guests that visit it. There is no doubt Water Magic is in the best hands for the job.

The attraction sounds absolutely fantastic. It is estimate to employ at least 100 people and possibly more as it grows. It will include: a 40,00 square foot building,100-foot kinetic energy sculpture at the front topped by a 1,000-gallon water bucket that dumps over on a regularly,a Water Theater, a deep-sea exhibition area, and a Bubble Room. There will be fountains every shape and size imaginable that will spout water in time with music.

Visitors will especially love Emporium Square. Here, they can find a two-story atrium with various water-driven gadgets, fountains and other features. It will lead to portals which direct them to different galleries. Some of of these, will let people feel as if they are walking on water. Visitors might even get surprise bursts of water or get to wander through a maze of water and mirrors, and more.

There will be a Water Theater that will show a production called “Imagination Rhapsody”, featuring a musical cacophony of water jets and swaying water spouts. Visitors will be able to make musical symphonies but when they hit a wrong note, it will bring water down upon them.

Everything about this attraction sounds so new and refreshing. It is definitely going to be a success. Imagination is a good thing, Charlie....you don't even need a golden ticket this time!

Winterfest in Sevier County

If you just come to the Smokies during those warm Spring days and for those hot Summer vacations, you are missing out on some of the best times this area has to offer. The Winterfest Kick-Off was November 8th for Sevierville; the 9th for Pigeon Forge; and the 10th for Gatlinburg. Gatlinburg also held their oh-so-popular chili cook-off the same day. Crowds of people came out for all three events. Each year,"flipping the switch" of the Christmas lights is a HUGE attraction. Sevierville was giving away food at just about every vendor. There were games, music, and awesome fireworks. Pigeon Forge had Mrs. Claus handing out candy and great entertainment. Their lights are incredible. It was hard to fit all the fun and food Gatlinburg had to offer into one day, let alone make your way through the gobs of people that showed up. A BIG congrats to the Flying Saucer Italian Bistro for their 1st Place in the Chili Cook- off!!!!!!!
<param name="movie"value="http://www.youtube.com/v/CfRfnawaRak?fs=1&hl=en_US"><paramname="allowFullScreen" value="true"><paramname="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embedsrc="http://www.youtube.com/v/CfRfnawaRak?fs=1&hl=en_US"type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always"allowfullscreen="true" width="450" height="271">

The Titanic Winter Kick-Off was a BLAST!

The cold weather did not deter the many folks packing into the ever-enthralling Titanic this past Friday. Although that seems to be the typical scenario for that business, Friday was extra special. It was their Winter Kick-off. There was a tent set up by the Kiwanis selling hot chocolate, cookies, coffee, drinks, and popcorn. Guests were entertained by carolers as they waited and mingled. There were camels as well provided by Noah's Ark and the Miracle Theater and much to everyone's great pleasure, snow started fluttering from out the bow of the ship. Brilliant Christmas lights lined the elegant vessel. It was a magical sight to behold.

Fireworks then began to sound off. They peppered the sky with their huge flower patterns and vibrant colors. The displays got better with each "boom." It was lovely seeing people brush the snow out of their smiling faces so that they can see up into the sky. People scattering around like mice to try to get the "best shot."

This was an AMAZING event! Many thanks to the Titanic and its owners for all your hard work. The crew was out in full costume to meet and greet guests. They were especially friendly. "Thank you" to those who showed up to the Kick-Off. David Fee of Fee Hedrick Family Entertainment and Diana Fuller of Collier Foods were in attendance as well as many other local figures.

YOU can experience snow off the Titanic's bow every Friday & Saturday from 7pm-8pm from now till November 26th. After November 26th, they will be offering it every night till January 1st. The Kiwanis will also be selling refreshments. Be sure not to miss out! While you are out, catch some of the other excellent festive attractions in town such as:the Black Bear Jamboree Christmas Spectacular, The Miracle, Comedy Barn, and The Smith's Family Dinner Theater.

Two Local Favorites Get Prestigious Awards

Sevier County offers many things: exceptional food, talent, fun, hospitality, lodging, and flawless beauty. It is not surprising that so many people choose to vacation here each year with large variety the area has. Each business brings something unique and special to the scene. Just recently, two of our most popular businesses were recognized for their excellence. Dollywood, celebrating their 25th year in operation, received the very prestigious Applause Award. The winner is chosen by a board of governors. This includes theme park professionals from around the world. The board is chaired by Mats Wedin, Liseberg Park's CEO. Since 1980, the award has been bestowed every other year upon the park whose "management, operations and creative accomplishments have inspired the industry with their foresight, originality and sound business development," according to a statement from Liseberg park in Gothenburg. Dollywood has done so much for their workers and our community and continues to do so. They make their guests' visit the memory of a lifetime. That was an award well deserved Dolly and Dollywood,CONGRATS!

Golden Coral, owned by Collier Restaurant Group, won the highly sought after Mountain Press Reader's Choice Award for 2010 and rightly so. They always have a huge variety of FRESH, delicious food piled up on their buffets and their staff is nothing less than sweet as pie. There prices are great! They hold quite a bit of the business meetings in the area there and do a spectacular job. We applaud them as well.

Thank you to these two businesses for all that you have done and to the many others in this County! We are so proud of you.

Farewell to Favorite

After nine wonderful and rewarding seasons, Black Bear Jamboree Dinner & Show and Black Bear Jamboree Christmas Spectacular are coming to an end. The Black Bear Jamboree Theater will offer an entirely new show: Hatfield & McCoy Dinner Feud and Stunt Show. Although the new production is sure to be a great success and sounds nothing short of action packed, it has big shoes to fill. For years now, buses of guests have been filling the parking lot just to enjoy some good, wholesome family entertainment and be served a delicious meal. The great variety of music and costumes, and the humor make both shows unforgettable for both adults and children. Then who could forget about those signature talking bears? They are the real stars! I went around asking people what it was that they would miss most about the productions. I was told everything from Raggedy Ann & Andy, the live Nativity, the live reindeer to the high energy music. I am going to miss how they pull all the kids out of the crowd and have them come on stage. I still have a video of when my son was little. His cowboy hat and boots were bigger than he was, but he marched right up on stage like it was nobody's business. I think it makes the kid's feel so special. He still watches that video. Overall, the show was a HUGE hit and will be sadly missed by everyone.

A great many thanks goes out to the cast and crew for all your hard work and effort through those many seasons. You guys are great! You touched hearts and brightened days for so many people. I am looking forward to your next show immensely:)

It's November!!!

We are one step closer to Christmas, wrapping up October with an action packed weekend. There was so much to do and not enough time to get it all done! On Friday, Oct. 29th, Pathways Church had their ribbon cutting for their new section for the youth called "The Hangar." Quite a bit of the community turned out to offer their support including two announcers from 105.5 FM. There was amazing fellowship and the passion the church has for their youth is unreal. They welcome everyone in as family. To learn more about the church please call (865)428-6312.

On both Friday and Saturday, Walden's Landing had live music. The bands were great and the shoppers enjoyed them immensely as they were walking about and standing in line for tickets at the new Forge Cinema. There were workers sifting through the crowds handing out samples of free, delicious yogurt from Tutti Frutti's and spirits were high. Families were laughing and playing at Firehouse Golf. Sunday provided children of all ages bouncing around in various costumes from store to store to receive goodies. It was a heartwarming experience.

Friday night was McClaren's 2nd Annual Halloween Bash. It was heavy on the fun with just a hint of scary:) The creativity with the costumes was unparalleled. There was, as always, food served to perfection, dancing, and a costume contest. They even played scary movies in the background. Where else can you see a surfer and a witch sit down to eat?

Well since it's November, there are some "must's" that you have to keep an eye out for: the shows change to their Christmas productions (totally rad), Winterfest Kick Off in Sevierville (Nov. 8), Pigeon Forge (Nov. 9), and in Gatlinburg (Nov. 10), and the Chili Cook Off (Nov. 10.) These are special not only to the locals but to our honored guests to the area as well. So come on out and join the fun!!!!

You can see pictures and videos of the events mentioned above on our Facebook.

Ziplines and Knives, Don't try this at Home!

In all my years, I have not once been ziplining until the other day when I went with my friend Beth from Rafting in the Smokies. We went to Wahoo Ziplines on Saturday and the weather was perfect. You couldn't ask for a better view from their first line. The instructions seem overwhelming for the first few minutes, but the guides walk you through it every step of the way. They do an EXCELLENT job and even provide bottled water for the thirsty customers at the near end of the trip. It was both an exhilarating and memorable experience. I would love to do it again sometime soon. Wahoo has a BBQ at their location for their hungry customers as well. Some other great ziplines include: Smoky Mountain Ziplines and Zipline Family Adventure!
Sunday was just as remarkable. I had the great pleasure of meeting Ken Largin of Kelgin Knife Makers Co-Op. This man is utterly astounding. His knowledge of the history of knives and the skill and grace with which he can make a flawless knife in under a half hour, will leave you speechless. The Co-Op is located in a 250 year old building beside the extremely popular Smoky Mountain Knife Works. The SMKW leases it to him for free. He and his wife, Paula, love to travel, but are here for the most part. Largin teaches the public how to make a knife out of everything from a railroad spike to a meteorite. He has worked with Boy Scouts, made knives for the P.O.W's from Desert Storm, and so much more. "Blade" magazine wrote an article on him in their July 2009 issue. He earnestly has a heart for a craft that seems to be fading away. When you go to his shop, he greets you with a smiling face and happily tells you of his many travels. This is a man who LOVES his "job." If you want to learn more about Ken Largin or Kelgin Knife Makers Co-Op go to his shop or www.kelgin.com
Yes folks, from ziplines to knives, the Smokies has it all, but you need to come here. Don't try this at home:)

The Hazard Way

What a beautiful weekend in The Great Smoky Mountains! With all this fine weather, I decided to spend a couple days in the always hoppin' city of Gatlinburg. It seems to have a whole calendar filled with things to do this month. The Hazard Run at Cooter's Place was just one of the events the city had to offer. Fans of the beloved "Dukes of Hazard" could see many cars from the series parading through town over the weekend as well as get an autographed picture from either "Cooter" or "Deputy Cletus." It sure brought back a flood a childhood memories. If you ever go to Gatlinburg, stop in at Cooter's Place and give 'em a good "Howdy!"

Another must see while visiting the city is the Gatlinburg Craftmen's Fair. There are arts, crafts, live music, and artists demonstrating on site. This is all taking place at the Gatlinburg Convention Center. Visitors will see over some of nation's finest work and over 200 booths.
Dates are October 7th through October 23rd.

There is also Ripley's Haunted Adventure for those of you who like a good scare. Although they are open 365 days a year, they are celebrating their 12th annual Fright Nights show this year with “Trick or Treat: 15 Nights of Halloween." It lasts from October 1st to October 31st. So get a good spine tingling thrill while you are in are town.

October is Here!

Well ladies and gentlemen, October is finally here. It is the month the represents the true signature of Fall and one of my personal favorites. The mountains are ablaze with the brilliant reds, oranges, and yellows of the trees and folks and setting out their pumpkin, autumn decorations. There is already a slight chill in the air. That does not seem to slow down the flow of people making their way to The Great Smoky Mountains to celebrate the season with all the festivals and crafts shows. Last weekend's Robert A. Tino's Smoky Mountain Homecoming was a fine example of such. There were bushels of people there looking at crafts, watching the different tradesmen, buying delicious food, listening to live music, riding the hay ride, and so much more. There was the best piping hot kettle corn made right in front of you. They also offered pony rides and had a petting zoo. I loved watching the little children running around picking out pumpkins to paint. Of course people could see the beautiful work of the very talented Robert A. Tino on display in several areas. Check out the pictures and videos of the event on our Facebook!

The Great Smoky Mountain Auto Fest Give Away

If you didn't attend this year's Great Smoky Mountain Auto Fest, you missed out on a great time and the opportunity to win a complete weekend family get-away. That's right! See Pigeon Forge was out there giving away 2 nights at the fabulous Willow Brooke Lodge, 4 tickets to the knee slappin' good Comedy Barn, 4 tickets to Dollywood, and $40 to any of the Collier restaurants. All folks had to do was register for the drawing held on Saturday. T-shirts were handed out and children were also able to get their faces painted for free. The winner of the vacation was Richard Anderson and family of Alabama.
The Auto Fest was delightful with its large variety in vendors and food. There was great music the entire time and plenty of prizes to be won. The largest prize of the Fest was the 50/50 jackpot. There was also a swap meet and a wonderful selection of cars to behold. Then to close the event, they offered a delicious dinner.
I recommend this event to all families. It is fun for all ages and has so much to offer:)

SeePigeonForge.com visits the 2010 Grand Rod Run

We had a ton of fun! I found the experience to be both humbling and rejuvenating. The first event, Keep Sevier Beautiful's clean-up on Saturday morning, was like a breath of fresh air for me. As I picked up trash along the roads, the ever-inspiring Great Smoky Mountains provided a gorgeous backdrop. Each passer-by smiled as he/she drove past. It reminded just why so many people visit our area each year. The combination of nature's beauty and so many friendly faces provides a perfect family vacation retreat. It really is a home away from home. I felt deeply honored to be able to help preserve its loveliness by taking part in the clean-up. I encourage everyone to get involved with Keep Sevier Beautiful. One person ALWAYS makes a difference, but together we are a force to be reckoned with.
The second event was the car parking at the Grand Fall Rod Run with the United Way of Sevier County. These folks worked extremely hard directing traffic, collecting money, and answering all sorts of questions. The heat made it just a little more than uncomfortable, but they had a great desire to make it a success. Rarely do you see such enthusiasm as such that is shown by our local United Way. I enjoyed the time I spent helping them immensely. I look forward to their upcoming Taste of Autumn and Shark Race this week.
Lastly, I visited the folks out at the Dumplin Valley Bluegrass Festival. The talent there was outstanding! There were vendors selling food, musical instruments, and other items from the bands playing. I enjoyed the great food selection and the country setting, but most of all; I enjoyed the kindness of the people. Everyone was in great spirits. If you have never been to this festival, I highly recommend it.
You can see picture of these events as well as our new video of the Grand Fall Rod Run 2010 on our Facebook fan page. Check it out and stay involved!

There's more to do in September!

We would like to extend a big "THANK YOU" to the guests that came in for the Shades of the Past 2010 event. You were both friendly and a joy to be in the company of. Not only did you bring with you some amazing cars, but you brought a great time as well! We are looking forward to having you back really soon.
Don't think that just because the Shades of the Past event is over, there is nothing left to do in our area during the month of September. There is still endless fun to be had and the list of events, still yet to come, goes on and on. Events such as: The Dumplin Valley Bluegrass Festival, The United Way's 13th Taste of Autumn and their ever exciting Shark Race, Pittman Center's Heritage Day, Smoky Mountain Trout Tournament, The 7th Annual Old Mill Heritage Day in Pigeon Forge, and The 18th Annual Heritage Festival & Old Timers Day in Townsend. Oh, you can't forget the two remaining auto events, The Fall Grand Rod Run and The 5th Annual Great Smoky Mountain Auto Festival.
The proceeds of both Taste of Autmun and the Shark Race go the The United Way of Sevier County. It is a time to send the children back to school and get back into the swing of things. More importantly, it is a time to remember the the men and women who serve and have served this great nation in the armed forces. They are the pride of the United States. We dedicate the entire month of August honoring these heroes. They have made the ultimate sacrifice: placing their lives in harm's way for our freedom's sake. A simple “thank you” does not seem enough. In fact, in recognition for all they have done, many of our county's businesses are giving a military discount through the 31st of August. Spectacular shows such as: Black Bear Jamboree Dinner and Show, The Smith's Family Dinner Theater, The Grand Majestic Theater, The Blackwoods Breakfast Variety Show, and the smoking hot new Kick 'N Country all offer a military tribute that your loved one is sure to enjoy. Guests get outstanding entertainment and a mouth-watering meal with some of these shows.

Do not leave town, though, without first visiting the Tennessee Museum of Aviation. This is simply a must see for ANY veteran with exhibits from all branches of the military. The staff is wonderfully sweet and museum is filled with amazing war and military memorabilia. It is complete with hangar and gift shop.

These are just some of the places you can go to with that special loved one you're trying to honor this month. There literally was something for everyone to go see and experience and from the look of it – no one was disappointed. Even the weather kindly lent a hand with clear skies and a light breeze. In short, it was a great weekend to be in the Smokies.

That being said, there still are more than three weeks left in the month and there are plenty of events coming up. Both the SEAA Girl’s Slow and Fast Pitch World Series are being held here and promise to be pretty exciting. Then there is the Great Southern Truck & Tractor Pull for some very loud and entertaining fun. Oh, we certainly can’t forget the Smoky Mountain Tunes and Tales event being held in Gatlinburg nor the ever popular Gatlinburg Craftsmen’s Fair.

Sound like fun? It sure does to us and best of all, this is just a sampling of what is going on down in your favorite family vacation destination. So what are you waiting for?
